About the Show
As Kate in the national tour of Come Fly Away, Ashley Blair Fitzgerald is put through the ringer executing Twyla Tharp’s dazzling choreography. After a performance of leaping, spinning and jiving, a girl’s got to take a break in a calm, personal space. Fitzgerald invited Broadway.com into her dressing room to show off her five must-have items that keep her in shape for the dance-heavy show.

“I’ve created Kate as a character who has crazy hair. So to help it get even crazier, I like to use a curling iron to pump it up a little. Once I am finished, I am able to use my hair along with the awesome choreography. I like to call it hair-ography!”

“This is a very athletic show and it is important to drinks as much water as possible. This helps me to maintain my stamina and it’s also good for my muscles. I go through two to three of these water bottles every performance.”

“Kate, the character I play is very extravagant and loves to be the center of attention. Since the show takes place in a nightclub, part of my preparation includes a lot of makeup. Lashes, bronzer and lipstick—lots of it—are a part of my everyday routine!”

“Being on the road can be very hard, so I always have pictures of my family around to remind me of my loved ones back home.”

“Having the privilege of dancing in a Twyla Tharp show also means I have to work hard and keep my body in shape. Every day, I take a ballet class, as well as practicing an in-depth warm up before every show. To keep my body protected against injuries, I do strength training three to four times a week. Taking the ballet class, as well as doing my exercises, has really benefitted me in all aspects of this show.”
