In this video, director Julie Taymor and producer Thomas Schumacher explain how the themes and elements of the movie contributed to the music of the Broadway hit. Musical supervisor Clement Ishmael describes how various musical styles were used to set the tone for different characters, such as the threatening hyenas being accompanied by a rock underscore and “aggressive, choral African music” playing while the lionesses are hunting.
