Houston’s 2013-2014 Season Will Include The Book of Mormon, Peter and the Starcatcher and More

A bevy of Mormons and a bunch of Lost Boys from Neverland are headed to Houston. The 2013-2014 Gexa Energy Broadway at the Hobby Center season will include the Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon as well as the hit play Peter and the Starcatcher. The season lineup also includes Chicago, Ghost, American Idiot and War Horse. All shows will play Sarofim Hall at the Hobby Center.

The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards, will open on September 3, 2013 and close on September 15. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon follows two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda, who soon discover their training did not quite prepare them for the world outside of Salt Lake City.

Audiences will know the story of how Peter Pan came to be when Peter and the Starcatcher lands from October 15, 2013 through October 20. A prequel to Peter Pan, this inventive play features a company of 12 actors portraying some 50 characters, all on a journey to answer the question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Refused To Grow Up?

The razzle-dazzle musical Chicago will strut onto the Houston stage from November 12, 2013 through November 17. A story of fame, fortune and seduction that has thrilled Broadway audiences for years, Chicago features a classic score by John Kander and Fred Ebb that his packed with the hits “All That Jazz,” “Roxie” and “Mr. Cellophane.”

The romance of Ghost will touch a whole new generation as the story of the 1990 movie comes to the stage in a brand new musical. The story follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam’s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death. The musical spectacle will play from February 18, 2014 through February 23.

The hit musical American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi platinum album, the show features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Holiday.” The rock musical will open on March 21, 2014 and run through March 23.

War Horse, winner of five Tony Awards, will run from May 27, 2014 through June 1. Using extraordinary puppets, War Horse tells the story of young Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of World War I. Albert, unable to forget Joey and still not old enough to enlist, embarks on a mission to find him and bring him home.
